September in the Garden

The tomatoes have been *so good* this year. It’s maybe the only bonus from the drought. They seem super sweet and aren’t cracking or getting buggy like usual.

I had a rough start this garden year. We had just moved into this new house (with three acres of lawn) and I was determined to start my garden. But I was also eight months pregnant and super lazy. I built some sloppy raised beds and put some veggie plants in. The groundhog and deer immediately took notice. Even after I put up the deer fence, the groundhog still snuck through and gobbled everything up (he’s living in our barn).

Very much a work in progress

I never did get any peas, my absolute garden favorite. And he kept mowing down on the scarlet runner beans I planted in July. But.. he missed this one! It will hopefully vine around the arbor. I love those red blooms and deep purple beans.
